Firewall Detected
In order to communicate through the Windows Firewall, the installer
adds itself to the firewall application exception list per Microsoft specifications.
This allows the installer to communicate with printers on the network for installation.
Click Next to search for printers on your network and
continue with the installation. Otherwise click Cancel to exit the installer.
If you have a firewall enabled (such as ZoneAlarm©, BlackICE©,
Sygate Security Agent©, and Norton Personal Firewall©, etc.), see your firewall
vendor’s documentation for instructions on how to disable the firewall.
Whenever the software firewall is disabled, HP strongly
recommends that the following things be installed on your computer:
-
A hardware device that provides firewall protection between the
Internet and your computer, such as a gateway.
-
An up-to-date virus detection program.
For general information on communication troubleshooting please
refer to the documentation that came with your printer and visit the support
website at
http://www.hp.com/support.
Firewalls frequently cause
communication issues. If a firewall is enabled on a networked computer, the
following problems can occur:
During software installation:
-
The HP printer installer will not be able to locate the HP
printer on the network. An error message will say that the setup was
unable to detect any printers on the network. To prevent this problem,
temporarily disable your firewall during the HP printer software
installation. Consult your firewall vendor’s documentation for
instructions on how to disable the firewall.
After software installation:
-
If the IP address of the HP printer changes, then your computer
will not be able to communicate with the HP printer. All print, scan, PC
fax, and image transfer jobs will fail and the product status will indicate
that the HP printer is disconnected. In a home network environment, it is
normal for the IP address to sometimes change. If the software firewall
is not enabled, the new address is sent to the computer, which allows the
computer and the HP printer to continue communicating. To prevent this
issue, disable your firewall or if you are an advanced user familiar with
networking then you may choose to use a static IP address instead. For
suggestions on how to configure your printer with a static IP address, see HP’s
website at
http://www.hp.com/support.
-
If you have an HP all-in-one, you will not be able to use the
memory card slots on the HP all-in-one to transfer files to your
computer. This is because files on the photo card will not be accessible
from the mapped network drive or the image transfer software.
For
more information on firewalls you can go to the HP website.
