OVERVIEW OF THE SOFTWARE COMPONENTS

The software installer for this printer has software for Windows operating systems. The specific components installed are dependent on the OS and user choices during installation. The list below provides an overview of common components. For more information about a particular print driver or software component, see the associated online help.

Note – Not all software components are supported in all operating systems.

Drivers

A driver is a software component that allows software applications to access printer features. Typically, you should install drivers for each printer. The printer software CD-ROM that came with your printer includes the following Windows drivers:

HP PCL 6 print driver Windows 7

HP PCL-6 print driver for Windows 8, 8.1, and 10

Additional drivers might be available from your HP distributor or from online sources. See the "Technical Assistance" section of this document or the printer user guide for more information about obtaining drivers and other HP software.

Software Applications

HP Device Toolbox

HP Device Toolbox provides printer status information such as toner and paper levels. HP Device Toolbox also is used to configure the printer settings.

HP Printer Status and Alerts

The printing system includes the Printer Status and Alerts software component for end-users. These alerts can be configured to appear when the printer cannot print (for example, when the printer is out of paper), an HP supply needs to be ordered, or a warning condition exists (the printer has experienced an error but can continue). Alerts only appear when you attempt to print.

The Printer Status and Alerts also can be configured to show no alert messages.

HP Update

If you have modified the configuration of the printer since installation, the driver can be automatically updated with the new configuration in environments that support bidirectional communication.

HP Product Improvement Study

You can choose to provide data for printer improvement.

Reconfigure Your HP Device

Use this utility to either install or change an existing printer connection.

Uninstall Product Software

The Uninstall Product Software utility allows you to remove the Windows HP printer components. See the "Uninstaller" section for instructions.
